Discussion Questions

1. What are some things that you are absolutely certain of? What is the basis of your certainty?

2. Why do you think Pascal was so certain about his conversion experience? Can you have that same kind of certainty? If you don’t have that degree of certainty, what will it take to bring you there?

3. What makes unbelief sinful? How would you explain unbelief to a small child? What does your unbelief look like?

4. What kinds of things do you tend to rest your faith in?

5. Discuss the “faith” of the official in John 4:43-45. What was it like?

6. Discuss the “faith” of the official in John 4:46-49. What was it like? Can you relate to the dilemma of this man?

7. Discuss the “faith” of the official in John 4:50. The apostle John tells us that he “believed the word that Jesus spoke to him?” Does this constitute saving faith? Why or why not?

8. Discuss the faith of the official in John 4:51-54. Does it appear that the official trusts in Christ alone for salvation? How do you know this? How is his faith distinct from the “faith” the emerges in John 4:50.

9. Do you have a faith that saves? What are some tests that you can apply to your faith?
