August 11, 2013
Psalm 5
Pastor Ken Van Kooten
Prepare Your Prayer (vs. 1-3)Three essential characteristics of prayer
i. Urgency – i.e. Elijah (James 5:17-18)
ii. Persistence – i.e. The unjust judge (Luke 18:6-8)
iii. An expectant spirit – i.e. (James 1:5-6)
Three different types of prayer
i. Words – Well reasoned sentences such as seen in this Psalm.
ii. Groaning or sighing – inarticulated prayers.
iii. Crying out – i.e. Hannah (1 Samuel 1; Romans 8:26)
Know Your God (vs. 4-6)
If you are drawing close to God, you will become increasingly sensitive to sin.
Make Your Request (vs. 7-8)Lead me in your righteousness means leading me in:
i. Your faithfulness
ii. Your love
iii. Your righteousness
Declare Your Confidence (vs. 11-12)You will cover him with favor as with a shield.
